talkSPORT understands Mark Robins is a candidate for the job.

Robins was sacked by Coventry less than three weeks ago after leading the club from League Two to the Championship play-off final.

A statement from Hull said on Wednesday: “Hull City can confirm that we have parted ways with head coach Tim Walter with immediate effect.”

“The co-head coaches Julian Hübner and Filip Tapalović also left the club.

“First team coach Andy Dawson will take over as interim manager while the club undertakes a thorough recruitment process for a permanent successor.

“We would like to thank Tim, Julian and Filip for their commitment during their time at the MKM Stadium and wish them all the best for the future.”

Walter leaves after only winning three of his 18 games as coach and EFL Cup.

The German's departure comes a day after Hull owner Acun Ilicali said Walter would remain in his post regardless of the result against Sheffield Wednesday.

“He will take the job,” Ilicali told the BBC before the 2-0 defeat. “If we lose tonight, he will remain in office.”

The Tigers have already started exploring potential replacements after a dismal season that saw them slip into the Championship relegation zone.

Whoever is tasked with replacing Walter will receive support in the January window, according to Ilicali.

“Of course we have the strength, we have the determination, we have the passion to bring in new players,” said Ilicali.

“We are very focused on the transfers in January.”

Walter was only appointed the summer after Last season they narrowly missed out on the play-off place.

But the German's term in office only lasted 180 days.

The defeat at Sheffield Wednesday handed Hull their fourth consecutive league defeat and extended their winning streak to nine games.

Walter's team had also only scored once in the last four games.

Before joining Hull, Walter managed second division club Hamburg.

However, in his two full seasons with the club, Walter was unable to lead Hamburg back into the top German league, losing in the promotion play-offs to Hertha Berlin and VfB Stuttgart.

Hamburg decided to separate from Walter in February.

Before coming to Hamburg, Walter also had stints at Bayern Munich II, Holstein Kiel and Stuttgart.
