New England Patriots coach Jerod Mayo reflected after the team's 25-24 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. The coach specifically pointed out areas that were weighing on the team throughout the afternoon.
Conversions in the red zone were a problem for New England. They went 1-for-6 in the red zone, with their offense constantly faltering in that particular area of the field.
And the defense didn't do much better.
“It's a tough game. I just told the boys again. We do a lot of things that are good,” Mayo told media members via after the game . “We just have to be more consistent and say penalties, look, it’s about us.”
“Penalties keep coming, both operationally and post-snap, and we have to do a better job of dealing with them.” But also just our red zone in general, our red zone offensively. I think we were 1 for 6. Our red zone on defense, we couldn’t stop them there and that’s really the game.”
The Patriots need to be better in several areas as they have struggled playing on both sides of the ball several times this season. Sunday's game was a microcosm of all the problems that already existed.
